2:00 pm Carter Mansion Tour- Join Tim at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look inside this elegant frontier home, and hear the stories of the Carter family who built it.
Thursday, June 7th
10:00 am Native American Weapons- Come down to the fort and visit with Tim to see how Native Americans used traditional weapons like the atlatl, bow, and tomahawk to hunt and survive in Northeast Tennessee for centuries.
2:00 pm Carter Mansion Tour- Join Tim at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look inside this elegant frontier home, and hear the stories of the Carter family who built it.
3:30 pm Flint and Steel Fire Starting- Meet Tim at the oven inside Fort Watauga to learn how settlers made fire during the 18th century. Fun for the whole family!
Friday, June 8th
9:00 am – 11:00 am Frontier Essentials- Join Tim inside Fort Watauga and learn the skills that allowed the earliest frontier settlers of the area to carve out an existence. Demonstrations will include fire starting with flint and steel, black powder making and use, and more!
2:00 pm Carter Mansion Tour- Join Tim at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look inside this elegant frontier home, and hear the stories of the Carter family who built it.
3:30 pm Tomahawk Throw- Come down to the fort and visit with Tim to experience a favorite pastime of the frontiersmen during the Revolution. Both kids and parents alike will enjoy this program!

9:00 am – 11:00 am Soldier in the Fort- Meet Tim in the fort’s courtyard for a tour and demonstration of 18th century militia life, clothing, and equipment.

3:00 pm Carter Cemetery Tour- Cemeteries are an invaluable educational resource for genealogists, historians, and the general public. Surprisingly, they can also be one of the most fragile and easily lost. Meet Tim at the Carter Cemetery on the grounds of the Carter Mansion to explore the importance and beauty of cemeteries as well as the steps Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area is taking to preserve this unique resource.
