Local Chest Makes It to Williamsburg Collection

Very Early 19th Century Painted Chest

I was checking the links at the side of the page and went to Colonial Williamsburg’s e-museum. They had several artifacts posted, including this wonderful painted chest. The write up said it came from  Greeneville and was made in the early 19th century (duh!!, got the date , dude). Check out the doubleheaded Eagle on the front. I wonder why they would have used that as  it’s a symbol of the Imperial Hapsburgs and Russian lines. Is that kind of eagle a federal design as well? Any comments?
