Join the Washington County Regiment of North Carolina Militia at Fort Watauga and Celebrate the Beginning of our Nations Independence. Become part of the Excitement that spread throughout the Colonies in 1776!
S A T U R D A Y, J U L Y 3rd
9:30 – Militia Inspection : Raising the Colours
11:00 – Please join us in downtown Elizabethton for the community Independence celebration and July 4th parade. The parade starts at 11:00 am beginning at Big John’s Closeouts and continues down Elk Ave. to monument circle.
2:00 – Frontier Freedom! : Watauga settlement leader, John Carter talks about Independence and Freedom on the Colonial frontier!
2:30 – Brown Bess : Join Jeff at the for t courtyard to see the flintlock musket in action!
3:00 – Kids Rubber-band Rifle shoot: Are you a Master Marksman? Come to the fort and show your skills in this frontier style rubber-band rifle shoot! Prizes given for the top three places.
4:00 – Retiring the Colours
4:30 – Camps Close to the Public : Join us tomorrow for a full day of 18th century living history and our Independence Celebration.
S U N D A Y, J U L Y 4th
10:00 – Militia Inspection : Raising the colours, Music by the Watuaga Valley Fifes and Drums.
11:00 –Worship Service : Join us for Sunday Service
1:00 – Bayonet Competition: Militiamen test their skill and aim with this 18th century weapon.
2:00 – Arrival of the Declaration of Independence: Document arrives by courier. Public reading followed by a short celebration.
