Col. McCroskey Speaks: Change of Officers and Promotion

I met with Nat Hyder and because of his family obligations,  he is
resigning his commission, but will continue to participate in regimental
events as a private in the ranks. In the meantime our Adjutant will
serve as Captain of the Watauga Company. He will continue with his
former duties. To avoid any seniority confusion Captain Bogart is
promoted to the rank of Major.

Col. McCroskey, My great great grand uncle Alexander McCallie 1781-1851 of Blount County married Esther Blair McCroskey 1784-1868. They are both buried in the Eusebia Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Maryville. Esther Blair McCroskey’s aunt Elizabeth McCroskey was the wife of Sam Houston, grand uncle of General Sam Houston 1793-1863. Alexander McCalllie is the brother of my great great grandmother Susannah McCallie Davis Jack 1782-1856 wife of Jeremiah Jack Jr. 1787-1862, a son of Jeremiah Jack Sr. 1750-1833 who had land across the Nollichucky River from Colonel George Gillespie’s stone house and Davy Crockett’s father’s land and log cabin in Limestone. Jeremiah Jack Sr. married Martha Gillespie daughter of Col. George Gillespie. They are my 3 great grandparents. Are you related to Esther Blair McCroskey? We plan to visit Limestone in May when the Knox County SR dedicates the new VA Rev. War marble headstone in the unmarked grave for Jeremiah Jack Sr., NC Militia in the Lebanon in the Fork Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Knoxville. Last December it was declared a National and State Historic Cemetery. Jeremiah Jack Sr. served under John Sevier at the Battle of Kings Mountain and Boyd’s Creek. I am on the board of the General Society of the Sons of the Revolution in Glendale, California. Terry Davenport of Morristown, TN is President of the General Society. I really enjoy receiving news of the Washington County Regiment of N.C. Militia. Thank you, Gerald “Jerry” Jack, San Gabriel, Los Angeles County, California.

I am fowarding your message to Bob McCroskey specifically so I am assured that he will read it. Also, I’m fowarding it to Ronnie Lail who is VERY active (I think an officer ) in the SAR for this region. I’m so glad you enjoy the blogsite. Now we’re even on Facebook (that cracks me up! If we go on Twitter, I’l just die!!l!) I hope your visit coincides with an event at the fort. Take care.
