Independence on the Frontier: Military Muster

Join the Washington County Regiment of North Carolina
Militia at Fort Watauga and Celebrate the Beginning of our Nations
Independence. Become part of the Excitement that spread throughout the Colonies
in 1776!

 

S A T U R D A Y,
J U L Y 2nd  

 

10:00 – Militia Inspection :  Raising the Colours

12:00 – Please join us in downtown
Elizabethton for the community Independence celebration and July 4th
parade. The parade starts at 12:00 noon beginning at Big John’s Closeouts and
continues down Elk Ave. to monument circle.

3:00 – Frontier Freedom! : Watauga
settlement leader, Captain James Robertson talks about Independence and Freedom
on the Colonial frontier!

3:30 – Inkle Weaving : Join Sarah at
the fort courtyard to try this age-old loom yourself.

4:00 – Flintlock Musket Demonstration : Join
an 18th century Militiaman for an up-close look at one of the most
useful tools in Colonial America.  

4:30 – Retiring the Colours – Camps Close
to the Public :
Join us tomorrow  for
a full day of 18th century living history and our Independence
Celebration.

J U L Y 3rd

 

10:00 – Militia Inspection : Raising
the colours, Music by the Watuaga Valley Fifes and Drums.

11:00 –Worship Service : Join us for
Sunday Service  

1:00 – Kids Militia: Attention all
able bodied kids! Fall in and drill with the Washington County Militia.

2:00 – Arrival of the Declaration of
Independence
: Document arrives by courier. Public reading followed by a
short celebration.

2:30 – Frontier Freedom! : Watauga
settlement leader, Captain James Robertson talks about Independence and Freedom
on the Colonial frontier!

3:00 – Event Closed : Have a safe and
Happy Independence Day!
