MAJOR BOGART SPEAKS: 1812 Living History Organizational at Boman-Bogart Cabin, Mar. 10

Recruiting party from The COSTUME OF YORKSHIRE, Published in London, 1814

To the Washington Co. Militia,
On Saturday, March 10th we will have a one day muster for those interested in doing 1812 living history. This will be at the Historic Bogart-Bowman Cabin in Unicoi, TN. This year marks the beginning of the bicentennial for the war of 1812, and we have the perfect opportunity to share this forgotten yet very important part of American history. Much of our 18th century gear will cross over into the 1812 period.
For example… Flop hats 18th cen. shirts split shirts Hunting Frocks trousers leggings Hi-Lows moccasins Haversacks shooting bags powderhorns knives hawks cartridge boxes
This first 1812 muster at the Bogart-Bowman Cabin will be a sort of organizational meeting designed to give us the opportunity to take a look at our 18th century clothing and accouterments, and see what will make the cut for the 1812 era. LADIES are encouraged to participate. Any of you ladies that have clothing books or research of the period please bring that to share. Also, those who already have 1812 period specific clothing and gear, please bring that to show as well.
If you are interested and wish to participate we will be at the Bogart- Bowman cabin from 10am – 4pm on Saturday, March 10th. Come dressed in what you would think appropriate for the time period and we’ll share our thoughts. Also, come prepared for a bit of drill. There’s always time for drill. The historic Bogart-Bowman Cabin at Buffalo Creek Park is located at 5012 Unicoi Drive. Take Exit 32 off I-26, then left, 2 miles north on Unicoi Drive.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can have somewhat of a headcount.
Thank You – Major Bogart
