That was a very touching moment to finally locate my 7th great grandfather’s the final resting place. To be in period dress when it happed made it even more special. Col. Hampton is one of the lesser known heros of the Battle of Kings Mountain, but like so many of the others he did his part without show or boast to get the job done. I am blessed to be decended from this American Patriot.
It is good to see so much honor and respect shown to your ancestor. My 5th x GG Thomas Hardeman fought at Kings Mountain in John Seviers group of militia.
Chad is your Col. Andrew Hampton the same one that was married to Catherine Hyder. If so then your are related to the Hyder’s of Powder Branch as Catherine was Michael Hyder’s sister.
Hi Chad, cousin Bill Hughes here..I too am very proud to be the 6th Great Grandson of Colonel Hampton..Also makes me proud to be American..I located a photo of Col Hampton, it’s on the Adkins family info site..
Would it be possible for you to furnish the web address for the Adkins family info site. While I am not a direct relative of Col. andrew Hamton he was married to Catherine Hyder, who is a relative to me, and would like to see the picture of Col. Andrew Hampton
Howdy Cuz, I’m so glad you found our site. I’m looking forward to seeing that photo of our grandfather.
