Ronnie Says: Honoring Ancestors This Weekend in Two Events Sponsored by the SAR

Capt. Christopher Taylor’s resting place

The organization,  Sons of the American Revolution,  is having two services this weekend. On Friday,  September 14 we will mark the grave site of Capt Christopher Taylor, who served with Sevier. That service will be 2pm in Jonesborough. (Molly note: Here is the news article for this event.
Directions to the cemetery are as follows:

1) From downtown Jonesborough go West on Main for approximately 1 mile from court house. The signs may say to Erwin. This turns into TN State Highway 81 South.
2) After crossing the rail road turn right onto TN State Highway # 353. Stay on this Highway .8 miles. You will pass a HEXPOL compounding plant on the right. Turn right on Judge Vines Road just past the HEXPOL plant.
3) After .3 miles on Judge Vines Rd. turn right on a gravel road going to back on the HEXPOL industrial plant. If you cross the rail tracks you have gone too far.
4) The gravel road will turn to the right and the cemetery is inside a black metal fence beside the plant.(within 20 feet of plant wall)
Here is some interesting reading concerning the Christopher Taylor house and the Captain himself.
On Saturday,  we will celebrate the Gathering at Sycamore Shoals. We would like to invite all our militia friends to attend and join in the color guard, rifle company or just be there to enjoy honoring our ancestors. We will need a cannon crew, so any of you ladies who feel up to that job I am sure that Major Bogart would like to have your help.
