The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association

Has developed an awesome interactive website to preserve and promote historically significant sites along the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail corridor from Long Island of the Holston to Cumberland Gap by creating historically accurate interpretative, educational and recreational opportunities.  For those of you traveling to Martin Station next weekend, use this site to point out key historical sites leading from our area along highway 58.  Notice Sycamore Shoals and other historical sites have also been included.  Enjoy !!

THE HISTORY OF CARTER COUNTY

This blog is the history of the Washington County Regiment but who where the people of the Watauga Valley; where did they come from?

Sherry Shook ,who finds the neatest things ever, sent me an interesting link to share with you. It’s about the people who settled this area, who they were and where they lived. She pointed out that there was one typo. The name “Joseph Ryder” should be JOSEPH HYDER. It’s a great article, easy reading and familiar names, Tipton, Carter, Boyd, Taylor and more are still reflected in our friends.

THE FORGOTTEN WAR

Sherry saw a PBS show that deals with the French and Indian War , tracing it through the northern regions where it occurred. I checked the links and they are wonderful. Reading them was well worth the time for those who want to experience the places  where some of the most monumental struggles occurred.
